SCHOOL INITIATIVES
It is the PAC's responsibility to determine the most pressing needs of our students and school and to allocate the funds we raise to these important initiatives. Determining how funds will be used to directly impact our students and staff is one of the most rewarding parts of being involved in the PAC, and a responsibility we do not take lightly.
Here are a few of our most recent school initiatives:
Makerspace in the library
Our school's makerspace consists of many different materials and tools that provide our students with the opportunity to tap into their own creativity and explore their own interests by inventing, experimenting and creating in a safe, encouraging environment. This type of hands-on learning truly empowers students to direct their own learning while building confidence along the way.
We are excited to be contributing funds to this ongoing project that will benefit all of the students in our school.
Science equipment for Middle Years
We were able to purchase science equipment for the Middle Years classrooms. This equipment will help the students further explore their science teachings with the ability to learn in a hands-on environment through observation and experimentation.
Reading Rugs for the Early Years
We provided funds so that the Early Years classrooms could add Reading Rugs to their classes.
Digital Outdoor Sign
We purchased our school's digital sign to allow the community to stay up-to-date about important events, notices and dates to remember!
Playground Expansion
The playground expansion was a significant project that was an incredible undertaking by the entire École Van Belleghem community. Our children get to reap the benefits of this fantastic playground for years to come!
Bottle filling water fountain
Fresh, filtered water from a fountain that conveniently allows students and staff to fill up their water bottles - now that's refreshing!
iPad for every classroom teacher
iPads in the classroom provide a powerful learning tool that captures students' attention while allowing our teachers to tap into a vast array of interactive learning opportunities.
Lego
We purchased Lego for all of our students to enjoy because of its many benefits! Playing with Lego develops lateral thinking in a fun environment and allows students to think in three dimensions. Literacy improves as students are working with instructions and playing with Lego helps to develop fine motor skills. The Lego is available for classroom teachers to use as they need; it will become part of the Makerspace as well which will allow students to have access to it when their class is using the space.
Camera for the school
We purchased a high-quality Canon digital camera for use by the students and staff. Staff can use the camera to capture high-quality, keepsake images for special school events. Students in Grade 7 and 8 will have the opportunity to use the camera for special creative work such as in art class and on photography projects.
Tranportation for field trip for every class
We cover the expense of school bus transportation for one field trip for every class, every year.
In addition to the above, we have also proudly provided the following to our school:
- Barbecue
- Volleyball net
- New uniforms for Van B sports teams
- Fish Tank
- Freezer
- Balls and other outdoor equipment for each classroom
